More than 100 games donated to Lunch Buddies Program
Communities In Schools of Lenawee and Clever Ideas Marketing held a game donation drive, “Play it Forward,” from March 10-14. More than 100 board games, puzzles, card games and art supplies were collected for the Communities In Schools of Lenawee’s Lunch Buddies Program in Adrian and Onsted Schools.
I am a lunch buddy at Michener Elementary and have had the opportunity to see the impact the program has on students. I have met with the same lunch buddy for the last 5 years, meeting with her once a week for an hour for lunch. I have watched her confidence grow as she gets some one-on-one time to talk and work on reading or math. We enjoy playing games and visiting with each other too. Having new games has brought some new excitement to the program!
My favorite part of living in Lenawee is the generosity of the community. Whenever there is a need, the community comes together and gives back to others. I am grateful to everyone who helped make "Play it Forward" a success, including Trevor Van Valkenburg, Lenawee District Library, Nick Vanover, Key Bank, and Tammy Hall and Anna Mortimer from United Bank and Trust for allowing their organizations to be donation locations. Thank you to those who donated a game, puzzle, or art supply to the donation drive, including Delight Creech, Associated Charities, who donated a box of games. All of the donations will get great use in our local schools.
